Some 600 Rotarians from Canada and the USA gathered in Yakima WA May 12 -15 at the annual District Conference. Many chose an option to participate in BBQ's, hike, fly fish, golf or join other fellowship events provided by the conference committee. A happy group from Salmon Arm took in the fellowship and many of the personal development seminars provided over the weekend.

How often do we have the chance to enjoy the stimulation provided by World class speakers? There were four at the conference. Canadian Rose Adams succeeded in becoming a lawyer despite many hurdles in early life. Rose founded the organization, “Oxygen for Success” to help others reach their life goals. Her presentation drew the emotions and motivation from all present.  Canadian astronaut Robert Thirsk provided an in depth lesson on team building and leadership during his two trips on the International Space Station. His insight into the challenges faced by crew members to solve or complete tasks within the close environment of the ISS was indeed an inspiration. Humor provided motivation for success and comedy presenter Jan McInnis gave us much laughter and its use in business and group environments.  Recipient of The President’s National Medal of the Arts Rafe Esquith gave us his unique perspective, developed over 30 years, on teaching grade 5 children in inner city LA. One could not but be impressed by his focus on reading, music and above all his plea to make children our priority.

Overall, our members returned to Salmon Arm stimulated and ready for the next Conference in Kelowna - April 28-30 2017.
