On Thursday, Aug. 22, club members, Bastion Place staff and residents, Salmon Arm Mayor Alan Harrison and other volunteers, guests and supporters gathered at Bastion Place to celebrate the completion of the Rotary project that included the addition of new patio furniture, contained planters, two barbecues, a storage shed and a gazebo.

When  the daughter of one of the residents  noticed that the outside garden and patio areas were in  very poor condition, she approached Rotary to help with providing patio furniture because she was informed that Interior Health did not have money in their budget to deal with it.

We formed a Committee group to investigate, headed up by member Colleen Fennell.  Not only was there very badly worn, even unsafe, outdoor furniture at the facility, but the garden areas were in very poor shape.  So, many of our members, together with help from staff at Bastion and other community folks, rolled up their sleeves and worked on tidying the outdoor garden environments.

After that, we approved and spent $15,000 on new patio furniture, contained planters, two barbecues, a storage shed and a gazebo.
