On Monday 25 May, Dawn Dunlop, Executive Director for Canadian Mental Health and Shuswap Independent Living Association spoke about affordable housing in the Shuswap and described the new development taking shape on 5th Avenue across from the Lighthouse Shelter. Their work with the Salvation Army was exemplified by Joel Torrens’ commentary during the presentation.
Dawn used an excellent power point to illustrate the history of CMHA from its beginning in 1918. She explained how they work with BC Housing, their collaboration with many agencies which vastly increases the capacity to help locally, the number of housing facilities we do already have in Salmon Arm,  and how the move of residents from the Salvation Army shelter to the recently opened McGuire Lake residence will work to provide temporary shelter until the new housing is ready.
