Project Amigo, a nonprofit society based in Colima, Mexico, transforms the lives of disadvantaged Mexican children and youth by enabling and supporting their continuing education. It is affiliated with Rotary Clubs throughout North America. Our club has made a commitment to Project Amigo to sponsor two students.
"Research shows that young people who graduate high school enjoy better outcomes in all areas of their lives--health, relationships and financial well-being and are better able to make choices that positively affect themselves, their families and their communities. Oftentimes the only thing standing in the way of a high school diploma for our young people is the ability to cover the basic costs of transportation, uniforms and school supplies. Your donation will make sure a young person has what he or she needs to be successful in school--bus money, books, school supplies, uniforms, a hot lunch, and weekly support through Project Amigo’s Homework Club.

Susana Villegas Barrios is in 7th grade at Queseria. She lives with her parents and six siblings in the migrant workers' camp at Queseria. Her mother cares for the family and her father works in the sugar cane fields. Susana is a new student, entering the scholarship program this year, as she begins junior high. She wants to be a primary school teacher. Her favourite subject is biology. She enjoys drawing, soccer and playing with her niece.
Our second student is Everado Ismael Perez Perez. He lives with his parents and his two younger siblings in Nuevo Naranjal, where his father works in construction, and his mother sells beauty products. Everado wants to be either a teacher of a pasty chef. His favourite subject his science, and he likes to draw.
As part of their commitment to the scholarship program, both students are responsible for maintaining a GPA higher than 8.5, performing 10 hours of community service a month, attending weekly homework club, and writing to sponsors regularly.
